Alabama Agriculture
The value of Alabama agriculture is not confined to a handful of commodities but offers a wealth of specialty crops produced across the state. All 67 counties rely, to some extent on farming and ranching as an important component of the local economy. Alabama agriculture receipts generated more than $4 billion in sales last year. In 2002 there were 47,000 farms totaling 8 million, nine hundred acres of land. Alabama grown products can be found all over the globe. In 2003, Alabama generated more than $ 400 million dollars in exporting goods. Agriculture is no longer the picturesque farmer and a mule tilling the field for the next cotton crop, farming is high-tech, using computerized equipment and reaches far beyond the homestead.
