Certification & Testing

ATTENTION COMMERCIAL PESTICIDE APPLICATORS EXPIRING APRIL THROUGH DECEMBER 2020:

In light of the shortage of live meetings due to the COVID-19 situation, ADAI has temporarily waived its rule of allowing only one online meeting during a renewal cycle for applicators whose permits expire April through December 2020 (additional months could be added later; we will update this page if/when necessary).  Therefore, at this time, if necessary, you may get all of your CEU points via online courses; just be sure to take a different course each time (preferably by a different vendor), and you must finish it no later than your expiration date (and then submit your renewal app and fee).  Please also check our website for webinars!  ACES periodically offers free webinars for all categories.  Please note that any meeting listed on our website is approved for 10 points; disregard the (0) after certification categories.

Below is a list of approved online vendors and the categories for which they have courses.  Please note that the categories of D&R and REG can take any course even if not on a list.

Note:  If you cannot get all of your points prior to your expiration date, you may take a recertification exam.  The link to sign up for the recertification exam at one of our testing sites is http://apply.adaitesting.com

Regardless whether you obtain your points or take a recertification exam, you must still submit your completed renewal application, applicable fee, and a photo if we don’t already have one or if it is more than five years ago (email photo to cert@agi.alabama.gov).

The Certification & Testing unit administers exams for persons wishing to be licensed in plant-setting, landscape design, and/or tree surgery, as well as those seeking to become certified as a commercial pest control applicator.

Once the appropriate exams have been passed, one must apply for certification through this office.  If an applicator plans to start a business in the state of Alabama, a license will also be required (professional services-main for structural categories; professional services-horticulture for OTPS, LD, SLP, and TS; and custom license for custom categories).

*Private applicators:  Please see last link below or visit your local county extension office in order to take private applicator training in order to apply for a new or renewed permit.  To check the status of a private applicator permit once you have taken the training and sent in your application and certificate, please contact Dorothy Gresham at 334-240-7286.
