The Alabama Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (AVDL) recognizes its responsibility as a provider of quality services. To this end, the Diagnostic Laboratory system has developed and documented a quality management system to better satisfy the needs of its customers and to improve management of the organization. The mission of the AVDL is to assist our clients in the detection and understanding of diseases. The Diagnostic Laboratory strives to provide high quality “state-of-the-art” diagnostic and consultative services to the livestock and poultry industries, the veterinary profession, wildlife services, apiary and aquatic animal industries, and other animal owners in Alabama. The Laboratory also provides information regarding disease occurrence for public health agencies, federal and state regulatory officials, and the animal industries.
The quality system of AVDL comprises all of the policies in the Quality Manual and referenced procedures and documents. This system was established to guide the staff in the performance of good laboratory practices and the production of quality outputs. The requirements of the quality system apply to all technical work of the laboratory.
The laboratory intends to provide clients or other concerned parties with the highest quality services and data and is committed to meeting or exceeding the client’s expectation.
The purpose of the quality system is to help fulfill the mission and vision of AVDL. All AVDL personnel are to implement and follow the quality system policies and referenced procedures, and the Requirements for Accreditation as defined by the AAVLD. Each employee has a role in the quality of the laboratory’s work and has a responsibility for its implementation according to his/her technical and/or managerial responsibilities.
It is the responsibility of each person to support the quality system. All work is performed with the highest level of integrity and professional competence. Each member of the staff is required to be alert to and report problems or sources of error that could compromise the quality of technical work performed throughout the laboratory.
The objective is to establish a documented quality system that provides for continuous improvement of that quality system to ensure reliable and accurate test results.
