Farm to Summer Sweet Corn Day at Carbon Hill Elementary
As kids at Carbon Hill Elementary munched on sweet corn, they had a visit from the farmer that grew their food. McKenzie Farms, a local sweet corn farm, supplied shucked sweet corn to the lunchroom for students to eat for lunch! After lunch, each child learned how to shuck an ear of sweet corn, guided by the farmer himself. 🌽
This was McKenzie Farms second time visiting students at Carbon Hill Elementary School in Walker County. In April, when McKenzie was planting his sweet corn crop, he was the guest speaker at an Elementary class. Students learned how corn is planted, plant parts and about McKenzie’s farm dog. Many of the students remembered when McKenzie visited their classroom and were excited to try the corn he planted in April.
