Asian Giant Hornets Not in Alabama

May 11, 2020

You may have heard about "murder hornets" in a recent New York Times article or one of the many other news or social media outlets that picked up the story.

The Asian giant hornet, sometimes referred to as the “murder” hornet, has been found ONLY in Washington State and in British Columbia, Canada.  It HAS NOT been detected in Alabama.

If you think that you have seen an Asian giant hornet, please contact your local extension office. A list of county offices is available at  https://ssl.acesag.auburn.edu/directory-new/.  If you have a wasp of concern, please contact Dr. Charles Ray for proper identification.
