The Agriculture Emergency Programs Section is responsible for reducing the vulnerability to or the impact from any disaster, disease, or terrorist attack on the agriculture community of Alabama.

The Agriculture Emergency Programs Section is responsible for reducing the vulnerability to or the impact from any disaster, disease, or terrorist attack on the agriculture community of Alabama. This section is tasked with:

  • Increasing the agriculture emergency response capabilities of the department
  • Preparing for and responding to agriculture emergencies
  • Educating and working with agriculture stakeholders on biosecurity, food safety, and agricultural emergency response
  • Working with federal, state, and local partners to help protect Alabama’s agriculture
  • Developing and exercising agriculture emergency response plans
  • Supporting the Alabama State Emergency Operations Plan
  • Managing the Agriculture Emergency Operations Center
  • Establishing disaster animal shelters
  • Serving as the Alabama Emergency Management Agency’s agriculture emergency liaison
  • Providing GIS mapping support to the department
