The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was signed into law on Jan. 4, 2011, to better protect humans and animals. FSMA focuses on preventing food safety problems rather than reacting to problems after they occur, and recognizes the need for a global approach to food and feed safety.
Background
The FDA has proposed seven additional rules that are foundational to this preventive approach encompassed by FSMA.
- Accredited Third-Party Certification Final Rule
- Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP) for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals Final Rule
- Mitigation Strategies to Protect Intentional Food Against Adulteration Final Rule
- Preventive Controls for Food for Animals Final Rule
- Preventive Controls for Human Food Final Rule
- Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food Final Rule
- Standards for Produce Safety Final Rule
