The primary mission of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries’ (ADAI) Industrial Hemp program is to facilitate and promote this renewed agricultural commodity. ADAI’s mission is to make the process of growing, processing, and handling Industrial Hemp as convenient and accessible as possible to Alabama applicants. Our Industrial Hemp section has worked diligently to establish regulations for the Alabama program that align with requirements of USDA, the governing body for all Industrial Hemp programs across the US. Alabama’s Industrial Hemp plan was created, submitted, and accepted by the USDA and went into effect on January 1, 2022. As ADAI will have the statutory obligation to fulfill the regulatory requirements within the recently accepted plan, our intent is to fulfill these obligations as painlessly as possible. ADAI is confident that the Industrial Hemp venture will be a viable alternative crop for the producers of Alabama.
